Level Up Gateway August Dev Update

This month we’ve shifted our focus back to some adventuring classes adding improvements and more levels on Level Up Gateway.

Fighter

The fighter is can now be built all the way up to level 20 with the Brute, Duelist, Gladiator, Knight and Sharpshooter archetypes! We also made some improvements to the class’s builder and character sheet along the way.

One of the highlights of hitting level 20 as a fighter is the mastery of all maneuvers which reduces their cost by one and makes one maneuver free. We reflect this in the Martial tab of the character sheet, also the rest of the mastered maneuver features to each maneuver’s description.

One of the improvements we added for the fighter in the character builder is a new combat maneuver picker. The dropdown selection it used before made it hard for players to learn about the tradition before picking it forcing them to choose blindly or need to look up the details somewhere else. The new picker now presents all your options with their descriptions and some evocative icons.

Wizard

The Wizard is now also supported to level 20, finally 9th level spells and more are possible in Level Up Gateway! Signature spells get some improvements in these levels, including at level 19 where they become possible to cast as an action or as a bonus action.

Minions won’t know what hit them with the movement + dash + Bonus Action Fireball combo.

One feature from the Pyromancer archetype made us change the way we handle copied spells. Copied spells used to be handled on the same page as your class spells with a button to add or remove one copied spell from your total number of spells known. This was a bit cumbersome since you would need to increase your count by one, then go find the spell in question.

We were forced to change it due to the 14th level Pyromancer feature Offerings in Kind:

Finally, your insight into fire magic deepens as a result of your connection to fire spirits. If you can find a written record of it, you can copy any fire spell into your spellbook as if it were a wizard spell. Once you do, it is a wizard spell for you.

This creates a difference between the spells the character can copy into their spellbook compared to the spells they can add when gaining a level. To solve this we’ve split Copied Spells to their own step in the character builder with no limits. At level 14 Pyromancer Wizards will find all fire spells added to the spells here.

For backwards compatibility characters using the old Add/Remove copied spell buttons will keep them. If you would like to use the new page instead you can un-learn all copied spells on the spells page, reduce the number of copied spells to 0, then add the spells on the new page instead.
