FAQs

Is Level Up the title of the game?

Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition is the title of the game.

Who are you?

We are EN Publishing, and we’ve been publishing RPG products for twenty years. We publish the popular 5E magazine EN5ider, and we’ve run very successful Kickstarters for The Masterclass Codex (16 new 5E classes) and Mythological Figures & Maleficent Monsters.

We published the critically-acclaimed War of the Burning Sky and ZEITGEIST: The Gears of Revolution adventure paths.

We also publish the official Judge Dredd & the Worlds of 2000 AD roleplaying game, and we run EN World, a large tabletop RPG news website and community.

Are you affiliated with the publisher of 5E?

We are not. This is an independent project by an established publisher of tabletop RPG books.

So what exactly is Level Up?

This is an ‘advanced’ version of the 5E ruleset, presented as a hardcover standalone game. It adds more customization and depth to the game.

So it’s not a 5E supplement?

No! This is a standalone game ! While it is 100% compatible with 5E, it is a core ruleset. It includes everything you need to play.

I don’t want to have to buy all my books again.

That’s definitely not what we’re doing here. This is still the same game you love, and all your books are 100% compatible with it.

Is it still 5th Edition?

Yes! This is still the game you know and love. We love it too! All your 5E books will be compatible with this new game.

5E is crunchy enough! I don’t feel that 5E needs more crunch.

Sure. We get it! Different people enjoy different styles of game, and that’s what makes our hobby so awesome! This game is for those folks who enjoy an extra layer of depth in their games.

If I want crunchy 5E why wouldn’t I just play Pathfinder?

We love Pathfinder, and we love 5E. They’re both awesome games. But they’re not the same game. Our game is specifically for people who want to play 5E.

If Pathfinder is your jam, we can’t recommend it highly enough! If 5E is your game of choice, Level Up is here for you!

How much play testing did you do?

In addition to thorough in-house playtesting, we held a massive public playtest with thousands of participants which took place over the period of a year.
