Magic Items Come to Level Up Gateway!
We’ve expanded the item engine drastically this update to Level Up Gateway, the official A5E character builder, and created a new campaign level collection for magic items so you can browse, create and edit magic items for your campaigns. Our first batch of items is from Trials & Treasures. All the items from the book have been implemented so that they update your character sheet, track charges and show spells and actions.
Editable Items
All the items from Trials & Treasures are fully editable. We’ve built more and more features into the item engine so that these items can be supported the same way any homebrew item would be. Charges, stat modifiers, actions, spells and more are now supported by items as well as a new option that lets any property on the item be subject to requirements: a condition the character must fulfil to apply the property.
Items Collection
The campaign Items page shows you all items in the campaign with tools to filter by price, rarity, source, category and even by effects like granting resistance to certain damage types or improving speed. The items collection also supports sources so any sources you add to the campaign (campaign settings) will contribute their items. Trials & Treasures will appear in your campaign sources and you can remove it if you don’t want to use its items.
Trials & Treasures
Trials & Treasures contains a staggering 540 items once we imported them into Gateway. Some items from the book that were collections of similar items have been split to make the mechanics easier to apply like Magic Mirror which comes in three variants: pocket, handheld, and wall, which are split to support better filtering by rarity in the items list and so they can each add the spells they provide to the character’s magic tab. We also added a feature that lets magic items pick a base item—for example Vorpal Blade. which can be any slashing blade. allows whoever adds it to pick which sword to use as its base for the sword’s properties and adds the vorpal properties in addition. And lastly the new Requirement property lets items define requirements that any other property can use, so effects the character needs to be strong enough to wield, properties that only apply if you’re not wearing armor or when holding a light shield all work the way you would expect.
Extras
As part of this items update we’ve also made it possible to send items from one user to another. Select an item in your inventory and you can send it to any other player. Charges and edits are sent with it. To make that possible we re-worked character sync so that changes to the same character sheet at the same time don’t overwrite each other. We’ve also added attunement logic to the character inventory to support the first items that can be attuned to,
